The Shariah Perspective On Kissing The Holy Qur'an
Question
A friend of mine said that one should not kiss the Qur’an. I would like to ask, is it permissible in Shariah to kiss the Holy Qur'an?
Question posed by: Imran Sheikh, Chatsworth.
Answer
Kissing the Holy Qur'an is permissible and recommended, and it is established from the practice of the Companions of the Holy
It is stated in Fataawa Shaami:
Translation: Hazrat Umar Radiallahu Anhu used to take the Mus'haf each morning, kiss it, and say: “This is the covenant of my Rabb and the revealed book of my Rabb.” Similarly, Hazrat Uthman-e-Ghani RadiAllahu Anhu would kiss the Mus'haf and touch it to his face in reverence.
