About
About Fatawa SA
An independent, read-only index that brings together fatawa already published online by South African Darul Iftas, so they can be searched and compared in one place.
What this is — and isn’t
Fatawa SA collects the question, answer, references and signatories of each published fatwa and links every one back to the page it came from (“View original”). It does not issue rulings, edit answers, accept questions, or host comments. The wording, authority and copyright of every fatwa remain with the issuing institution.
Disclaimer. A fatwa answers a specific question in specific circumstances. Do not apply a ruling to your own situation without consulting a qualified mufti — ideally at the Darul Ifta that issued it. Each Darul Ifta profile links to its own question page.

Notes on the data
- Muslim Judicial Council: the MJC publishes only a title and answer; the title is shown in place of the question.
- Amjadi Darul Ifta: 27 Urdu fatawa exist only as scanned PDFs. Their machine-read text is unreliable, so they are hidden by default (Filters → “Show low-quality records”).
- Empty answers: a small number of source pages show a question with no answer text (often an image). These are hidden by default and flagged when opened.
- Darul Uloom Zakariyya: most entries come from the printed Urdu volumes (via fduz.org), which have no dates or signatures.
- Darul Iftaa Camperdown: most answers come from web-archive copies of iftaa.co.za; recent ones were captured from printouts and their Arabic references may contain artefacts.
- Jamiatul Ulama KZN (jamiat.org.za) is listed separately from Jamiatul Ulama South Africa, whose questions are answered privately and are not published.
- Language is detected from the text of each fatwa (English, Urdu or Arabic). Topics (Salah, Zakat, Marriage …) are assigned from each Darul Ifta’s own categories and are approximate.
Updates
