The Mustahab Dua Between the Two Sajdahs
Question
What dua should one recite between the two sajdahs in an obligatory Salaah?
Question posed by: Salim Bhai, Chatsworth
Answer
In an obligatory Salaah, it is mustahab (recommended) for the Imam, the follower (Muqtadi), and the individual performing Salaah alone to recite the following dua between the two prostrations (Sajdahs):
"Allahumaghfir lee" “O Allah, forgive me.” Reciting a lengthy supplication in this position is Makrooh (disliked). However, if one is performing a voluntary (Nafl) Salaah individually, it is permissible to supplicate between the two sajdahs, even with a somewhat longer dua. Imam-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat Ala Hazrat Alaihir Rahmah, states in Fataawa Razviyyah Shareef:
"Reciting ا ِف ِل الbetween the two prostrations is Mustahab for the Imam, the follower, and the individual performing Salaah alone. A lengthy supplication is makrooh for all; however, there is no harm if an individual does so during Nafl Salaah." (Fataawa Razviyyah Shareef, Volume 6, Page 182, Raza Foundation, Lahore)
