Question

Assalaamu-alaikaum Mufti Sab,

Alhumdulillah we are married couple and expecting a baby inshallah in few months. We selected two names. First is Amin and Second is Ayman. I found the meaning of Amin as Honest and trustworthy. Can you please confirm the meaning we knew also Can you give the correct spelling as we are not sure if its Amin or Ameen. Can you provide the meaning of Ayman too.

Jazakallah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Ameen and Ayman are good names to keep.

Ameen means trustworthy, honest, faithful. It is also one of the titles of our beloved Muhammad Salallahu Alaihi wa Salam. (Names for Muslim Children; Pg.26; Darul-Ishaat – 1991). Ameen is a more appropriate spelling.

Ayman is from the root word Yumnun [1] which means one who is blessed.[2]&[3] (Lisanul Arab; Pg. 464; Darul Hadith, Ed 2003)
