Question

I am a working muslim woman who is wearing the face veil. in our office we are just two people(a man & myself) that have 2 seperate offices.

My company would like to know in terms of life threatening situations like where I would require CPR, or if break my hand/leg how much of assitance can my colleague who is a male give me according to Islam.

What must my colleague do if something had to happen to me. Will he be allowed to lift my veil or will he be allowed to stop the bleeding on my hand or leg with things from the first aid box until the paramedics arrive??

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sister in Islam,

It is encouraging to note that you are in hijab and the face veil. May Allah Ta'ālā keep you steadfast. Āmīn.

You state the only people in the office is you and another man.

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

No man should be alone in seclusion with another woman, for verily Shaitan is their third. [As-Sunan al-Kubrā of Imam An-Nasaī, V. 8, Pg. 284, Muassisah al-Risalah, Beirut]

In another hadīth, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) stated the rationale behind issuing this command:

Verily, Shaitān runs through a person like the running of blood (through veins). [Sahih Al-Bukhari, V. 4, Pg. 124, Dar Tauq An-Najah]

Even though you cover yourself with a veil, you must guard yourself against the conspiracies of Shaitān. Being alone in an office building with another man also falls in the ambit of the above mentioned prohibition of being alone with a man.

Nevertheless, Islam recognizes the needs of people during life threatening situations; therefore, in a state of emergency, a man will be allowed to give you medical aid.[1]

May Allah Ta'ālā grant you ease in this world and the hereafter. Āmīn.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
