Authenticity of Hadith on the punishment of looking at a Non Mahram women lustfully
Question
what is the authenticity of this hadith:
Whoever looks at a non-mahram woman lustfully, molten hot lead will be poured into his eyes, and then he will be thrown into Hell.”
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The narration you refer to is,
Translation: Whoever looks at a non-mahram woman lustfully, in the hereafter molten hot lead will be poured into his eyes.[i](Al-Hidayah, 368/4)
Imam Az-Zaylai (762AH) states regarding this hadith,
Translation: “Gharib,” (this hadith has not been found).[ii]
Allamah Qasim bin Qutlubuga (879AH) explains when Imam Az-Zaylai is unable to locate a particular narration he expresses this with the statement, ‘Gharib’.[iii]
Hafidh ibn Hajr (852AH) also states,
Translation: I have not come across this specific hadith. Rather, this punishment has been prescribed for that individual who is accustomed to eavesdropping. Molten hot lead will be poured into his ears. [iv]
Nevertheless, taking lustful glances is haram (strictly prohibited) and established from many other authentic narrations.[v]

مَنْ نَظَرَ إلَى مَحَاسِنِ امْرَأَةٍ أَجْنَبِيَّةٍ عَنْ شَهْوَةٍ صُبَّ فِي عَيْنَيْهِ الْآنُكُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَة
قلت: غريب
حَدِيث من نظر إِلَى محَاسِن امْرَأَة أَجْنَبِيَّة عَن شَهْوَة صب فِي عَيْنَيْهِ الآنك يَوْم الْقِيَامَة لم أَجِدهُ وَهَذَا الْوَعيد ورد فِيمَن اسْتمع إِلَى حَدِيث قوم وهم لَهُ كَارِهُون صب فِي أُذُنَيْهِ

قال العلامة قاسم بن قطلوبغا رحمه الله: ( يقول - أي الزيلعي – لما لم يجده : حديث غريب . . .)
وقد يتابعه الكمال ابن الهمام في استعمال «غريب » بهذا المعنى
