Jamaat of Taraweeh Salat
Question
We know that taraweeh salat is sunnate muakkadah. But what about the jamaat for this prayer? Is it sunnate gaer muakkadah, or sunnate muakkadah, or something else?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh
Taraweeh Salaah is Sunnah Mu’akkadah for every individual male and female.[1]
It is Sunnah Alal Kifayah to perform Taraweeh Salaah in the Musjid of one’s locality with Jama’ah (congregation). Sunnah Alal Kifayah refers to that Sunnah which if not fulfilled by anyone of the locality, then every individual will be sinful for not carrying out the Sunnah.[2]

التراويح سنة موكدة لمواظبة الخلفاء الراشدين للرجال و النساء (الدر المختار، ج 2، ص 43)[1]
بخلاف صلاتها بالجماعة فانها سنة كفاية فلو تركها الكل اسااوا (رد المحتار، ج 2، ص 45)[2]
و الجماعة فيها سنة علي الكفاية في الاصح فلو تركها اهل مسجد اثموا الا لو ترك بعضهم و كل ما شرع بجماعة في المسجد فالمسجد فيه افضل قاله الحلبي (الدر مع التنويرـ ج 2، ص 45)
حتي لو ترك اهل محلة كلهم الجماعة فقد تركوا السنة و اساوا (رد المحتار، ج 2، ص 45)
و اكثر المشايخ علي ان اقامتها بالجماعة سنة علي سبيل الكفاية (الفتاةي التاتارخانية، ج 2، ص 319)
و اكثر المشايخ علي ان اقامتها بالجماعة سنة علي سبيل الكفاية (المحيط البرهاني، ج 2، ص 251، كتاب الصلوة)
