What does it mean to drink in 3 breaths, please give details. JazaakAllah
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It was the practice of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) to drink water in three breaths. It is stated in the following hadith,[1]
Translation: “When the prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) drank, he used to breathe three times in the course of a drink and say: It is more whole-some, thirst-quenching and healthier.”
When one takes a sip, he should move his mouth away from the cup, and then take a breath (not inside the cup). This should be done after each sip. Accordingly, there will be three breaths after three sips.[2]

عمدة القاري شرح صحيح البخاري (21/ 200)
أَي: هَذَا بَاب فِي بَيَان الشّرْب بنفسين أَو ثَلَاثَة أنفاس قيل: بَين الترجمتين مَعَ حديثيهما تعَارض، لِأَن التَّرْجَمَة الأولى فِي النَّهْي عَن التنفس فِي الْإِنَاء، وَهَذِه فِي ثُبُوت التنفس. وَأجِيب بأجوبة مُخْتَلفَة، وأحسنها أَن البُخَارِيّ جعل الْإِنَاء فِي التَّرْجَمَة الأولى ظرفا للتنفس، وَالنَّهْي عَنهُ لاستقذاره، وَقَالَ فِي هَذِه التَّرْجَمَة: الشّرْب بنفسين فَجعل التنفس للشُّرْب أَن لَا يقْتَصر على نفس وَاحِد بل يفصل بَين الشربين بنفسين أَو ثَلَاثَة خَارج الْإِنَاء، فَبِهَذَا يَنْتَفِي التَّعَارُض
