Is the bought meat in the ownership of my son, or is it still under my ownership?
Question
Assalāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuh
If I as a father buy meat for a braai that my son is to have with his friends, however, the for some reason the braai is cancelled, is the bought meat now the ownership of my son, or is it still under my ownership?
JazākumAllahu khayran-
_________
Clarification:
1. He is not a minor, i.e. he is baligh.
2. The meat was not handed over to him.
3. It was bought for that da’wat, just like a father would usually buy food for the household.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.
In the inquired scenario, the ownership of the meat remains with you as this is merely Ibaahah (permission to use).[1]
And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
