Entering Makkah Without Iḥrām to Visit Someone
Question
A person travelling from medina to Makkah with no intention of umrah. Do they need to wear ihram? I just need to go and visit a relative in Makkah and give them a bag.
Answer
As salām ʿalaikum wa raḥmatullāhī wa barakātuhū
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
It is compulsory on a person outside the boundaries of the Mīqāt who intends to enter Makkah or the Ḥaram to wear the Iḥrām before passing the Mīqāt. This rule applies even if the person intends to go to Makkah or the Ḥaram for other than performing Ḥajj and ʿUmrah, such as for work, trade or to visit relatives etc.
And Allāh Taʿālā knows best.
