Question

I have irregular periods that sometimes come after months of waiting. Can I take medication to bring on my menses will my iddah be counted? I have been told it wont be counted but I wanted to find out from a learned person.

Answer

As salām ʿalaikum wa raḥmatullāhī wa barakātuhū

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

In the enquired scenario, if one takes medication to induce bleeding, the bleeding would be considered menstruation provided there are valid ṭuhr periods separating the blood. Her ʿiddah will be 3 menstrual cycles.

And Allāh Taʿālā knows best.
