Making an effort to learn Deen

Question

If someone sins and they do not know that they need to change, and no one tells them, is the person still accountable and are their actions written as a sin?

Since there are many avenues available for one to learn deen and come to know which actions are permissible and which actions are impermissible and amount to a sin, one cannot regard himself as excused for not knowing.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
