Performing qurbaani while one is a musaafir
Question
For Eid, I'm going to see my family abroad. I'm only going for one week so I will be a Musaafir. One condition of wujoob for Qurbaani is that a person is a Muqeem. I am planning to do zabah of an animal there.
The question is what intention do I make? Is it Nafl? If its Nafl, can I then do esaale thawaab of it instead of doing it from my own side? Or will it become waajib when I buy the animal even though I'm a Musaafir?
Answer
Qurbaani is not waajib on a musaafir. However, if he does qurbaani, it will be valid.
The Fuqahaa have explained that if a musaafir returns home during the days of Qurbaani, then the animal which he slaughtered during safar will suffice for his waajib Qurbaani and he will not have to slaughter another Qurbaani animal for his waajib Qurbaani to be fulfilled.
It is permissible to convey the reward of the Qurbaani (whether it is a nafl or waajib Qurbaani) to whomsoever one wishes, from the living or the deceased.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
