Question

Q. Is it permissible to blow on food to cool it down?

Answer

It is Makrooh to blow in one’s food to cool it down. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbaas (Radiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) objected to blowing in food. (Musnad Ahmed, Hadith : 2817)

The Muhaddithoon (Scholars of Hadith) have explained that it is against table manners to blow on one’s food due to the possibility of one’s saliva escaping onto the food, which is against hygiene, especially if it is being shared with others. (Daleelul Faliheen, Vol: 5, Pg: 242)
