Question

What is the Islamic Rulings on excavating, replacing or re-arranging the Muslim Graves? Is it allowed?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is not permissible to excavate, relocate or move the grave of a Muslim once the burial is complete unless it infringes on the rights of another person. Hence, it is permissible to move the grave of a Muslim if the deceased was buried in usurped land or in the property of another person. If some money or item of value was dropped in the grave, it will be permissible to recover the money or item.
