Does the floor of the bedroom become napaak? & other questions regarding Taharaat
Question
Asalam Alaikum Mufti sahib
My questions are regarding taharat.
In my family house , the bathrooms are attached to the bedrooms. The bathrooms consist of the sink , shower as well as the toilet. The bathroom floors are tiled and the bedroom floors are made up of marble.
In my experience , it is almost impossible that no najasat gets to the floor of the bathroom. Most definitely , najis splashes from the toilet get onto the bathroom floor.
I have observed that the domestic worker dips a cloth into a bucket of water , and uses it to mop the bathroom floor. That same cloth , and same water in the bucket , is used to mop the floors of the bedroom as well.
My questions are as follows:
1) Does the floor of the bedroom become napaak?
2) Some of my family members walk in the bathroom with wet feet , and then walk in the bedroom with wet feet as well.Does this make the bedroom floor napaak?
3) I was told that if the marble floor does become napaak , then when it gets dry it becomes paak again and Salah can be performed on it. Is this correct?
4) If the napaak floor gets dry and hence becomes paak . Then if someone walks on that dry floor with wet feet , do their feet become napaak?
5) If the napaak floor gets dry and hence becomes paak . Then if that floor gets wet again , will it become napaak again?
Jazak-Allah
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is a well-known principle of Islamic Jurisprudence that,[1]
Translation: “Certainty is not lifted by mere doubts.”
All places are considered clean unless there are visible or clear traces of uncleanliness such as color, smell, or taste.
Accordingly, the floor of the bathroom will be considered to be pure unless proven otherwise with certainty. Unless you actually see urine or stool on the floor, you will consider the floor to be pure.
Furthermore, it is well known that the few needle-like splashes are overlooked by the Shari’ah.[2] If you are in doubt of the surface being impure then you should discard such doubts. Always trying to make things more difficult on yourself may lead to psychological problems and may open the doors for the Shaytaan.
Remember, Almighty Allah says,
Translation: “Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you.”
Nevertheless, we advise you to use separate buckets and cloths for wiping/cleaning the bathroom and the bedroom. This will ensure there is never any transfer of Najaasat. Similarly, make use of separate pair of slippers for the bathroom. Enjoin your family members to do the same.
