Question

Wishing Jummah Mubarak is not a sunnah but is it an innovation?

Did the sahabah(RA) ever use this greeting?

If they did not use this greeting should this be used?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Bid’ah is defined as a new act regarded as compulsory in Deen.[i] If one does not consider saying and wishing others Jum’uah Mubārak compulsory in Deen, it will not be a Bid’ah. [ii] Generally, people say Jumu'ah Mubārak due to Jumu'ah being a blessed and auspicious day. [iii]

This blessedness should not be restricted to verbal utterances. One should remind others to take maximum benefit from Friday advising them:

1. To recite Sūrah Al Kahaf.

2. To increase Durūd Shareef.

3. To go early to the Masjid for Jumu'ah Ṣalāh.

4. To engage in Du’a, especially before Maghrib.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
