How do you explain to a <8 year old, who wants a Barbie, that it?s not allowed in Islam, without letting her feel that her religion is not presenting a hindrance.
Answer
In Islam, Shirk (ascribing partners with Allah) and anything relating to that is prohibited. That includes pictures and toys of animate objects as idol worship commenced with pictures of idols.
Such pictures were then made into images and later worshipped. We advise you explain the above in a very simplified form to your child according to her level of understanding.

Fatawa SA is an independent, read-only index of fatawa already published by Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah (AskImam). It is not a fatwa service. For your own situation, ask the issuing Darul Ifta directly.
