Praying Salat in a room with images - Is the Salaah valid?
Question
I have heard from different scholars different viewpoints on praying in a room with images (humans, animals, etc.). Some say it is Makrooh, others say it is only not allowed if the image is in-front of you or above your head, while some have said it that it is forbidden completely even if the image is on the ground or out of sight. I am confused as to which one it is because there are many images in my house from books and children’s toys.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
At the outset it is important to point out that Shariah has taken a very strong position against pictures of animate objects. That is due to pictures of animate objects having resemblance with idols. See the following Ahadith:
Translation: Muslim narrates, we were with Masruq at the house of Yasar bin Numair. Masruq saw pictures on his terrace and said, "I heard `Abdullah (Ibn Masud Radhiallahuanu) saying that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, "The people who will receive the severest punishment from Allah will be the picture makers.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith No. 5950/Sahih Muslim Hadith No. 2109)
Translation: Jabir (Radhiallahuanu) narrates: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prohibited having images in the house, and he prohibited making them."(Jami At-Tirmidhi Hadith No. 1749)
Translation: Abu Hurairah (Radhiallahuanu) narrates "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever makes an image will be commanded on the Day of Resurrection to breathe the soul into it but he will not be able to do so."(Sunan An-Nasai Hadith No. 5360)
Translation: Abu Talha (Radhiallahuanu) narrates The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Angels do not enter a house that has either a dog or a picture in it." (Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith No. 3322)
The purpose of Salaah is to worship Allah Alone. Whilst performing Salaah it is inappropriate to have anything around that has any resemblance to idol worship which is against the concept of Tawheed (The Oneness of Allah.)
It is for this reason the Fuqahaa have ruled that it is Makrooh to perform Salaah in a place where there are pictures of animate objects.
Furthermore, one should perform Salaah in place where there is no distractions. If there are pictures animate or inanimate objects, that will cause distraction. The abomination of pictures with animate objects is more severe due to its resemblance with idol worship.[1] [2] [3] [4]

ولو كانت الصورة صغيرة كالتي على الدرهم أو كانت في اليد أو مستترة أو مهانة مع أن الصلاة بذلك لا تحرم، بل ولا تكره لأن علة حرمة التصوير المضاهاة لخلق الله تعالى، وهي موجودة في كل ما ذكر.
