Is a woman allowed to drive?
Question
Can a woman drive if her husband is at work and she needs to go shopping or pick the kids up from school?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is permissible for a woman to drive if there is a real need to do so and there is no fear of Fitnah or danger to her in any way.[1] However, she should ensure that she adheres strictly to the laws of Hijab and she does not drive the Safr distance i.e. 78 km[2] or more if she is not accompanied by a Mahram.
