Distribution of the interest part of an estate
Question
Q. We are winding up my father’s estate and have found one of his accounts have accumulated interest. When distributing the shares, do we also include the interest as part of the shares or should it be taken out first and then distribute the shares.
Answer
The interest should be disposed of first. It does not form part of the estate in Shari’ah and hence is not to be distributed.
