Borrowing from Zakaat funds
Question
Q. Please advise if an organization can borrow from its Zakaat funds to pay staff salaries and when it has sufficient Lillah funds repay the amount back to Zakaat.
Answer
It is not permissible to borrow from Zakaat funds. The organisation has been entrusted with the task of distributing Zakaat. Hence, they are restricted to that responsibility. Exceeding that would be impermissible and considered a usurpation of the Zakaat funds. (Shaami 2/269)
