Is dyeing hair black permissible?

“We are prohibited in the Mubarak Ahadith from using a black dye. You have stated in your query that you use a dark brown dye, which is generally permitted in terms of Shariah.”

“It will not be permissible to utilize black colour to dye the hair irrespective of the type of dye used. Other colours such as brown, etc. may be used for dyeing the hair; but that too when the hair has turned grey or white. However, one should refrain from using loud/fashionable colours or streaking the hair.”

“We are not allowed to dye our hair black for many reasons. The First Major Reason: is that there is a very severe punishment mentioned in the Hadith Shareef for those who apply black dye. Therefore it is in Abu Dawood Shareef:”

“1. It is permissible for women of all ages to dye their hair whether they are married or not. 2. It is permissible to dye the hair any other colour besides black.”
