Is watching TV, movies or series permissible?

“The main focus of AFDA is on education related to film, television and entertainment. Such activities are not permissible in Shari’ah. In principle, it is not permissible to fundraise for impermissible activities.”

“It is not permissible for one to watch movies as they contain many things that contravene the laws of Shariah e.g. pictures of animate objects, music, males looking at pictures of non mahram females, vice versa, nudity, obscenity, viewing acts of shirk and kufr like in the movies you are referring to.”

“Our Fatwa department is not in favour of CCTV due to it comprising of picture-making and filming of animate objects which are prohibited in the Hadith. The Hadith Sharif states, “The worst punishment on the day of Qiyaamah will be meted out to the picture-makers.” [Bukhari] It is on this basis that we do not approve of CCTV.”

“Anime is a Japanese animation style known for its vibrant visuals, exaggerated character features, and diverse themes, ranging from science fiction to romance. Anime is not solely for kids as the targeted audience are adults hence the contents at times can comprise of violence, vulgar language, immodesty, drug use etc.”
