Question

As Salaamu Alaikum Hazrat Mufti Saheb.

I need to know if we can do Aqeeqa for a child before 7 days. May Allah reward you.

Question posed by: Basheer Akrami Durban.

Answer

One can perform Aqeeqah before the seventh day, but doing so is against the mustahab method. Therefore, it is better and appropriate to perform Aqeeqah on the seventh day of the birth of the child, it is also permissible to do it before or after the seventh day of the birth. It is in Fataawa Tanqeehul Haamidiyyah:

If the animal of Aqeeqah is slaughtered before the seventh day or after the seventh day, it is also permissible, but it is preferable to do it on the seventh day. (Fataawa Tanqeehul-Haamidiyyah / Volume 2 page 246)

And it is in Bahaar e Shariat: The seventh day is more virtuous for the Aqeeqah, and if one is unable to do it on the seventh day, one may do it whenever he wishes. The Sunnat will be fulfilled. (Bahaar e Shariat, Part 15 Page 56 / Imam Mustafa Raza Research Centre, Durban)
