What the Darul Iftas say
“The calculation of 4 months and 10 days for Iddat-e-Wafaat (Iddat due to the husband passing away) will depend on the date which the husband passed away according to the Islamic calendar. Passing away on the first of any Islamic month will demand that the Iddat be counted according to months.”
“May Allah Ta’ala forgive the deceased and grant him Jannatul Firdous. May Allah Ta’ala grant the widow Sabr Jameel. Ameen. In principle, a pregnant woman’s Iddah (waiting period) is the duration of pregnancy until the birth of the child. Allah Ta’ala says in the Qur’an:”
“The injunction of serving Iddah after the demise of one’s husband has been categorically mentioned in the Quraan Sharif. Allah Ta’ala states: Those of you who die, leaving their wives behind, then they (the wives) shall remain by themselves (in Iddah) for four months and ten days (if they are not pregnant).”
“The iddat period of a woman whose husband passes away is four (lunar) months and ten days. This law will apply to the case where the husband passed away on the 1st of the lunar month. If he passed away on the 2nd or any time during the month, the iddat will be 130 days from the time of his demise.”
