What the Darul Iftas say

“This notion is incorrect. Our relatives also have rights upon us which we have to fulfil. The closer the relationship is, the greater will be the right they will have upon us. Hence, the rights of the grandparents are extremely great. In fact, it is close to the rights of the parents.”

Mufti Online — The rights of the grandparents · 19 Dec 2016

“It is obligatory upon an adult child to obey and fulfil the instructions of his parents, provided that the instruction does not entail anything contrary to the Shar‘iah.”

Ibn Masood — Obedience To Parents · 14 Oct 2026

“The lineage and responsibility of an illegitimate child will be attributed to the mother. The biological father has no rights to the extent the if the child passes away the biological father will not inherit from him and if the biological father passes away the child will also not inherit.”

AskImam — Does the father of an illegitimate child have any rights? · 9 Jun 2025

“Obedience to one’s parents is Fardh ‘Ayn. However, your example is flawed, since memorising the whole Quran is not only a Mubah (permissible) action but rather it is Sunnat ‘Ayn and Fardh Kifayah. As such, if there is already a Hafidh in one’s area, obedience to one’s parents will take precedence.”
