What the Darul Iftas say
“Before answering the question, a few principles should be understood regarding vows according to Shariah: ü A vow is to take an oath to make a permissible act compulsory and binding upon oneself.”
“If a person takes a vow to give an animal in charity, then one has a choice: - One may give the meat of the animal after being slaughtered, - Or give the entire animal without it being slaughtered.”
“Firstly, one must understand that this is not a Qasam but rather it is a Nazr (vow). Such a Nazr is valid. Therefore, it will be necessary to fulfill it. The Nazr he made continues forever since he used the word “whenever”. There is no time restriction to complete one’s Nazr but it will be best to fulfill it as soon as possible.”
“It is not permissible for you to break your vow. If you break your vow, you will be sinful. You should not waste your time. Time is a great ni'mat of Allah Tala. You should appreciate this great nimat and make a habit of reciting Quraan and doing good deeds (e.g. making zikr, engaging in istighfaar, reciting durood shareef, etc.”
